A VISION FOR THE FUTURE
Several years ago, a group of visionary local leaders sought creative solutions to the county's challenges. A major restoration of Bennettsville's historic downtown was seen as a significant step forward.
A new state-of-the-art library would be the centerpiece.
After exploring several possibilities for the site, they forged a space-sharing partnershjp with the growing Northeastern Technical College. This concept would greatly enhance the project as the library building would now include additional classrooms for NETC. It would be built on the site of the existing NETC, adjacent to Murchison Auditorium, a revered building important in Bennettsville's history. Together, these buildings would create a dynamic downtown "Cultural Campus".
These visionary leaders then made an inspired choice to name the proposed Marlboro County Public Library for Marian Wright Edelman, a moving tribute to their community's native daughter. It is a decision that celebrates her unparalleled work on behalf of children and stands as a powerful and enduring symbol of community progress.
So, sometimes life comes full circle.
A new and exciting chapter in the story of the little girl and the library is about to be written.
